In the U.S. Sprint and Verizon use CDMA. AT&T and T-Mobile use GSM. To verify your device is GSM check compatibility here.

An unlocked phone is a device that is free to use on any network and has not been restricted by a previous carrier. Each carrier has an unlocking policy. This basically allows you to take your device from your original carrier to another.

Unfortunately there is no way for Flash Wireless to know if your device is locked or unlocked. In the event that your device is locked your device will not program after you activate service with Flash Wireless. At that point you will need to provide another device purchase one from Flash Wireless or request a refund.

Access the Carrier Unlocking Guide to learn when each carrier will consider unlocking a device and customer care numbers to make a request.

You can check your device compatibility here. The system will determine if your phone is a GSM device and that it has not been reported lost or stolen. The system cannot determine if your device is locked. If your device is locked your device will not activate on Flash Wireless. To unlock your device contact the wireless carrier the device was last activated on. For reference you can view the Unlocking Policy for each carrier.

The IMEI is the electronic serial number of your device. To locate your IMEI: Complete one of the following steps:

  1. Dial *#06# on your phone.
  2. Check in the settings menu:
    Android: Go to Settings > About device > Status
    iPhone: Go to Settings > General > About
  3. Check under your device's batter for MEID or DEC - either number may be submitted.


For service on Flash Wireless you must use a Flash Wireless SIM card. If you do not have a Flash Wireless SIM card and you would like to bring your own device you will be provided the option to receive one for free when you validate your device after checking compatibility.

The Flash Wireless SIM cards are triple punched. One card has all three sizes; simply select a size and detach from the card. For a listing of SIM card sizes please see the SIM card Size Guide.
